The author of the second book was a dick too. Bottom line Kulklinski was nearly totally full of shit and the one poster got it right, he built his lies on a few truths. Anyhow, there are a few other places I have said stuff online. Yes I'm who I say I am, no, this is not to be "cool", how that would be from being a dude who got murdered kid is beyond me. If anybody sees this and has a question I'll answer if I see it. Not the type of thing a "mafia hitman" engages in. Not him, clearly somebody he knew though. Kulklinski (we didn't know who he was then, but he looked the same as he did when he came to prominence) had followed us when we went out, it took a decade to realize that, and had once approached my mother for a "light" at her job, 2 days later a man threw gasoline on her as she came home from work. Robert Prongay was my father, it is all bullshit, Kulklinski rented a garage in front of the one my father was murdered in, so he knew him. Just looking for an article and found this. After he got attention for the more grounded stories, he starts making up even more fanciful stories. I think he spent time in prison reading up on unsolved cases and the mob and decided to claim he was involved in all of them. This is the pattern for Kuklinski's stories: he takes something real, exaggerates it, and then injects himself into it. He then took this story about an unhinged icecream truck guy and then spun a fanciful story and weaves himself into it. I don't think he ever actually met the guy. He either read about Prongay's case in the newspapers at the time and remembered it or read about it later. My take is that Kuklinski wasn't that creative when he was making up his stories. The bombing was also reported but I haven't found a source for it yet. I found a newspaper article from 1984 reporting how he was shot dead and says that he was about to go on trial for planting bombs at his ex-wife's house and threatening to kill them. Turns out, there really was a guy named Robert Prongay in New Jersey, born 1945 and died 1984. Kuklinski says they had a falling out when Prongay wanted him to kill his ex-wife.Ī lot of people think this is a complete tall tale, and the idea of an assassin driving an ice-cream truck is something out of a bad movie. Kuklinski claimed he would use the truck for cover and store bodies in it. Kuklinski talks about meeting another ace assassin who used an icecream truck and for cover, was an expert in explosives and cyanide. Please report any submissions that violate our rules.
